When the fishing goes slow - take out the camera!

Hi guys, just a short post today. I went out yesterday morning in the hope of some more freshwater action but no joy. Flicked around a few lures for about 2 hours and NOTHING!

Decided I'd share a few pictures of the scenery I was lucky enough to encounter on the journey.

Enjoy!

And here was me thinking I had something decent....

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz the drag starts screaming (I'm stitting on the bank reading a book). Run over to the rod. This thing feels solid and I'm thinking its a Trevally or Mangrove Jack!

After about a 5 minute tussle I see the dreaded wiskers and know it's a Catfish.

Better luck tomorrow :)

A different spot, a different species!

This morning I sent out at about 6:00am to a little spot near my place, about a 15 minute drive. I know the spot well and it normally fishes well from first light till about 8:00am approx.

Today for bait I was using fresh cuts of Bonito - lightly salted (the Bream love it!). The morning started slow with a few little ones hacking away at the tough Bonito's skin but I soon hooked on to the fish below:

And soon after, his friend followed suit.

No fish is safe when I'm jigging my hook around!!! Ahaha

As you can see, catching a Bream in this area doesn't take much skill. The water is teeming with them!

Hinze Dam 1/5/11

Sunday 5:05am 1/5/11

Kayaks on the roof, rods, tackle & bucket in the boot and the trip begins. Driving to my friends house, the morning looks very still.

5:25am

All loaded up with my 2 mates and we're en route to Hinze Dam, about a 35 minute drive away. As we're driving up and our mobile phones loose reception the tranquillity sets in.

5:55am

Today we're fishing the western side of the lake. Access to this part is in the form of a small steep dirt track. This small track is the main thoroughfare for other fisherman launching vessels - luckily when we arrive we're the first on the water.

6:15am

After some double checking of knots, tackle and kayaks we're off. As we head north up the lake, Bass are hitting the water all around us. I cant wait much longer so I start casting at anything that looks fishy and come up 15 minutes later with a small Bass.

As we continued north the Bass kept coming.

I thought there'd be something under this log but nothing :(

The scenery out here is great!
